RedLine Performance Solutions (RedLine) has been in the Linux and HPC solutions engineering services business for over 25 years and is consistently determined to keep the "bar of excellence" quite high for new hires. We are seeking a Sr. Linux/HPC Engineer to support multiple Research and Development (R&D) sites for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Agency (NOAA). Candidate must be able to operate at a high level as member of a larger team supporting a mission critical, multi-site R&D environment.
Customer scientists develop and use mathematical models and computer simulations to improve our understanding and prediction of the behavior of the atmosphere, the oceans, and climate. These scientists focus on model-building relevant for society, such as hurricane research, prediction, and seasonal forecasting, and understanding global and regional climate change. A complex and rapidly evolving heterogeneous technical infrastructure supports this customer mission. The Sr. Linux Engineer will lead and actively participate in the evolution and maintenance of the technical infrastructure in addition to supporting an on-site High Performance Computing (HPC) environment.
US citizenship and the ability to obtain a security clearance are mandatory requirements for this position. The primary work location is at a customer site in Princeton, NJ. Preference is for local candidates, but we will consider remote candidates as well.
Required Skills:
- 7 or more years of Linux systems administration, preferably in a Red Hat environment
- Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, IPv6 and dual stack networking
- Firewall experience
- Advanced experience working with and managing enterprise class storage
- Proficient in creating, validating, and managing X.509 certificates
- Experienced in DNS administration, including DNS view configuration
- Familiar with multi-factor authentication (MFA) concepts and workflows
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to coordinate between multiple team members in remote locations between several disparate projects
- Strong organizational and problem resolution skills
- Strong experience in Bash, Perl, and Python scripting in a version-controlled environment using Git
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Degree in computer science, management information systems, or related field preferred.
Preferred Skills/Experience:
- Experience with system engineering in addition to system administration
Red Hat Certification (e.g., RHCSA, RHCE) - HPC system experience (e.g., parallel file systems, cluster management, archival systems, Infiniband)
- Server automation (e.g., Puppet, Foreman, Ansible)
- Familiarity with a wide range of server and networking hardware (e.g., Dell, Juniper, HPE, Spectra Logic, Storagetek, Hitachi-Vantra)
- Ability to take initiative with/lead projects and tasks
- Applications such as Trac, Gitlab, OTRS, and Mediawiki
- Strong virtualization experience, particularly in KVM
- Strong experience with authentication systems and services (LDAP, Globus, OAuth, Single Sign-On, login bastions).
